Vacancy: Translation and proofreading services

Background:

IMPACT – Civil Society Research and Development e.V. , founded in Berlin in 2013, is a non-profit civil society organization with offices in Iraq, Turkey and Syria. Civil society support is the core of IMPACT’s mission through long-term and balanced support to individuals and organizations in the conflict and developed countries. IMPACT main areas of intervention is capacity building, research, peace building and diaspora engagement.

In 2022, IMPACT launched the project “fostering women-led spaces for change”, which aims to support women-led and women-focused organizations WFOs to claim their space and do effective role in changing the stereotypes about gender equality. The project includes capacity building, networking and advocacy activities, as well as production of research and policy papers on priority topics as defined by the partner WFOs.

Purpose of services:

IMPACT research outputs are directed towards various groups and audiences, including Syrian and international actors, therefore publications are usually bilingual (Arabic and English).

Within the framework of Spaces project, IMPACT is seeking service providers to translate research outputs from Arabic to English, and proof read the final outputs in both languages.

Scope of work:

The assignment is to provide high quality translation of seven research and policy papers (approximately 30,000 words in total) from English to Arabic, proofreading of both versions of the papers.

Deliverables:

• Severn research papers translated to English and proofread.
• Seven proofread Arabic versions of research papers.

Timeframe:

One-time assignment for a period of one month (with possibility of extension). Tentative timeframe is 20^th of March to 20^th of April 2023.

Qualifications:

Service providers should possess the following qualifications:

• Minimum three years’ experience in translation form Arabic to English.
• Previous experience in text editing and proofreading skills in Arabic and English.
• Proven Experience in translating policy papers and policy-oriented research.
• Previous work with humanitarian agencies and/or civil society organizations and NGOs; and familiarity with humanitarian and legal terms.

• Financial offer in Euro including:
  Cost of translation services from Arabic to English per word

2. Cost of proofreading services in Arabic (per word)
3. Total cost for translating and proofreading approximately 30000 words.
