Job Title: We Exist! Advocacy Alliance coordinator
Job Location: Remote within Europe, specifically Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Geneva are preferable locations for work
Reporting to: Project Manager

General Description of the Organization:

IMPACT – Civil Society Research and Development e.V. , founded in Berlin in 2013, is a non-profit civil society organization with offices in Iraq, Turkey and Syria. Civil society support is the core of IMPACT’s mission through long-term and balanced support to individuals and organizations in the conflict and developed countries. IMPACT’s main areas of intervention are capacity building, research, peacebuilding, and diaspora engagement.

Project description

IMPACT hosts the “We Exist” alliance: a Syrian led network of Syrian organizations focused on advocacy and campaigning to bring forward the voice of Syrian changemakers. WE aims to “bring together active, vibrant and dynamic civil society organizations to ensure the voice and agency of Syrians is at the forefront of discussions about Syria’s future.” WE works actively with other coordination groups. The network is also the current host of the Syrian Civil Society Networks Platform, which gathers 9 Syrian Civil Society networks that collaborate and coordinate together.

Duties, objectives, and competencies:

  • Coordinate with WE members to ensure that the network is holding their vision and mission.
  • Work with WE board members to plan the network activities and ensure that WE strategy is in the core of the activities,
  • Leading campaigns with WE members and partners to make their demands heard on the international stage
  • Overseeing the development of campaign content, including websites with partners and creative agencies
  • Developing and executing a strategy for the initiative’s international engagement, coming priorities, and long-term sustainability
  • Organizing and holding meetings with policy makers, diplomats, and other members of the international community to discuss the work and position of Contractor’s projects
  • Managing and coordinating among the partner organizations including planning joint events, statements, campaigns, etc.
  • Building the coalition’s membership by drawing in new civil society organizations via public engagement and outreach
  • Contributing to international discussions relevant to the Syria conflict while representing the coalition and setting agendas and priorities
  • Occasional travel to locations of international meetings or conferences
  • Provide the technical inputs in regard to enhancing the project’s activities quality.
  • Develop, manage and revise project operational plans based on a plan submitted to donors and in accordance with Programme Management Tools.
  • Work with the project team and link with the support management team on progress and encountered challenges
  • In contribution to the IMPACT operation team ( HR, procurement, finance), ensure that all relevant operations are well prepared and submitted with providing all required reporting and technical specifications to maintain the commitment to IMPACT policies.
  • Develop a clear work and expenditure plan and ensure that the program is implemented within the agreed/approved budget and timeframe.
  • Report all project activities with the donor’s deadline with adherence to donors’ requirements and reporting formats.

Requirements:

  • At least a university bachelor’s degree, with a master’s degree preferred, in studies related to conflict, development, non-governmental organizations, journalism, civil sociey or other relevant studies.
  • Significant work experience (3+ years) in advocacy and public campaigning as well as experience engaging with international organizations and actors
  • A solid understanding of the Syrian context and its response, both in terms of humanitarian, human rights, and political/development actors
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with fluent spoken and written Arabic highly preferred
  • Strong ability to self-start and work independently, managing multiple tasks and priorities, as well as to create and identify opportunities to contribute to the growth of the platform
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to coordinate with multiple parties and external stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment and ability to make impartial recommendations;
