Diaspora Engagement

Diaspora communities are not simply recipients of humanitarian concern — they are active, resourceful, and politically engaged constituencies who can shape the futures of both their host societies and their countries of origin. We build the platforms and partnerships that allow this potential to be realized.

Our diaspora engagement work is built on a core belief: that proximity to a crisis does not determine the depth of one’s stake in resolving it. Diaspora organizations and communities carry unique combinations of local knowledge, international access, and cross-cultural credibility that make them indispensable partners in advocacy, policy influence, and post-conflict recovery. Our role is to connect, convene, and strengthen these actors — not to speak for them, but to amplify their voices where they matter most.

Connecting diaspora networks with civil society actors on the ground, bridging local realities with international advocacy spaces, and hosting cross-regional dialogue platforms — these are the connective functions that IMPACT performs, making us a trusted convenor across a wide range of actors and geographies.

Supporting Diaspora Networks and outreach

We host and facilitate diaspora advocacy networks, providing the infrastructure, facilitation expertise, and institutional access that allow member organizations to coordinate their messages, engage with policymakers, and mobilize around shared priorities. Our experience running and supporting networks across multiple countries has taught us that effective networks require more than shared values: they need clear governance, consistent communication, honest conflict resolution, and regular spaces for members to build trust and align strategy. We bring all of this to the networks we support.

IMPACT plays a vital role in facilitating interaction among diverse civil society, political, and expert actors at both local and international levels, fostering connections around shared interests. Networking is deeply integrated into our activities, and we extend beyond financial and legal support to actively host and support advocacy networks. Our initiatives include hosting advocacy platforms like the We Exist Advocacy Network and the Syrian Civil Society Networks Platform.

MPs2030 (Members of Parliament in 2030)

Our civic leadership programs in Europe — including the MPs2030 initiative — demonstrate a complementary dimension of this work: investing in the next generation of diaspora leaders. Through structured civic education, institutional visits, political mentorship, and alumni networks, we equip young people from diaspora backgrounds with the knowledge, skills, and connections to engage actively in the political life of their host countries — and to carry those capacities back to their countries of origin. The program is designed to be adapted for any diaspora community and any democratic context.

This program equips ambitious youth with the civic knowledge and tools necessary to participate in Germany’s political landscape. Through workshops and meetings with politicians, migrant role models, and experts, participants gain insights into the political system and are empowered to lead their communities. The program focuses on fostering leaders who can contribute to shaping political discourse in Germany while maintaining ties with their countries of origin.

Young Leaders Alumni and Los Geht’s

Graduates of the MPs2030 program join the Young Leaders Alumni network, which provides ongoing coaching and job placements in government departments, political parties, and organizations. These alumni meet annually to continue their civic and political engagement, with the most active participants receiving additional support to further their careers in public service.

IMPACT’s aim was empowering  human rights advocates to challenge dominant narratives and promote an inclusive, IMPACT hosting went beyond mere administrative and logistical support, by offering connections, research capacity and most importantly the UN ECOSOC consultative status that allows IMPACT and partners to access UN venues and interact with its agencies directly.
